Cleveland, OH: It’s the dawn of a new era of rust belt centered horror at the release party for The Lake Erie Monster #6, a comic book by John G, Liz Valasco and Jake Kelly, from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, February 10th, 2017 at Weird Realms at 11508 Lorain, Cleveland.
Shiner Comics is proud to announce the publication and release of the sixth issue of The Lake Erie Monster, a natural follow-up and evolution of the popular comic by Jake Kelly and John G. This issue is the beginning of a new paradigm for the series. Where the first five issues featured episodic installments of the title story “The Lake Erie Monster”, along with short back-up tales, The Lake Erie Monster #6 presents three self-contained, “one-and-done” stories by three different creators while maintaining the tradition and fun that the series is known for.
If you’ve never read The Lake Erie Monster this new issue is the perfect opportunity to check it out. Readers will not need to have read the first five issues to pick up The Lake Erie Monster #6 and dive into the murky depths of terrifying region-specific horror comics. With John G’s Wolves of Birdtown you’ll take a walk with an insomniac through a dense, questionable neighborhood in the middle of the night. In the beautifully rendered Young Skin by Liz Valasco you’ll have a front row seat to witness a young girl confront the creepiness of being trapped by a mysterious entity. Finally, find out the gruesome fate of A Girl in a Garbage Truck by Jake Kelly, a tale so fraught that it needs no explanation.
All of these stories are presented by The Lake Erie Monster’s Goulardi-esque horror host “The Commodore”, a zombified version of Commodore Perry. He also makes an appearance in an all new one-page history lesson in The Commodore’s Cleveland. Peppered throughout the issue are the much loved, hand-drawn ads for other local small businesses, designed specifically to look like old comic book ads by the creators of the comic.
Also available at the event will be copies earlier issues of The Lake Erie Monster, as well as of A Race Anthology: Dispatches From a Segregated City co-published by City Club of Cleveland and Guide to Kultchur that John G contributed to with Lawrence Daniel Caswell, and Jake Kelly’s massive 420 page book FLYERS: 2000-2015.
